Chili

Today I made chili for dinner. It had a can of diced tomatoes, a can of tomato sauce, a can of kidney beans, some leftover black beans and half a bag of frozen blackeyed peas (of which was given to me and I had never eaten before. They were ok, I guess). I tossed in 3 crushed garlic cloves, half a red onion, and 2 cups water (to help cook the blackeyed peas). After it had been simmering a big I decided to taste it and it wasn't very good so I added a little Trader Joes BBQ sauce into the pot and let it boil down to a reasonable thickness. I cooked up some ground turkey for the side for the men in the house.

It turned out pretty good. :)

The Beginning

On a recent visit to the doctors office, and some follow-up monitoring that my blood pressure is getting a little too high. My doctor encouraged me to eat a whole-foods diet and to go running.

My brother was telling me about the Couch-to-5K program that some of his friends used so I found a program online (because I didn't want to pay the $4 for the iPhone app). I've been running every other day, well more like run walking so after getting the running schedule, I chose a random time (7 minutes)and set the timer in my phone with some old-school Bowling for Soup and went for a run.

Oh BOY! That was tougher than I thought. So I'm going to start the training at that mark and just keep going for the rest of the 6 or 7 weeks until I'm supposed to be running 30 minutes 4 days a week. And then a 5K in the Spring!

The Stats:
Height: 5'4"

Blood Pressure: 133/88 (!)
